Hackneyed, trite, banal, are all expressions that come to mind when I hear this expression in media or in a book. Come to think of it what is all this business with mom and pop anyway?
Perhaps harkening to old tales when the social units actually consisted of this arrangement some stories made sense. But to use in the context of Facebook and like investing it reeks of stale incongruous ideas.
For starters there is over 50% divorce rate in the US with more and more people going the way of the singularity. There is no preponderence of mom and pop and if there was its dwindling.
What about the mom and mom or pop and pop arrangements? What about the mom and test tubes? What about the steps (mom and pop)? What about the more than one of each? I tell you there is just no truth in reporting these days. What about those with criminal intents or a skewed bent? Some have hit the low road and abandoned the offsprings of the mom and pop?
I think 'pop goes the weasel' makes more sense don't you?
I attempted to read this book by author Chuck Klosterman backward to forward but it started hurting my brain so I decided to stop and do it like any other publication in the English language. Start from page 1 and move to the right. Witty, caustic and thought provoking this is a book you want to read if you believe that the status quo might, just might be wrong. At times bordering on being contrarian about most things around us it tries to zero in on the notion of what makes anything believable and certain in our minds. The fact that there is a fact itself is ironic. Something analogous to the idea that you can never predict the future because there is no future. Many books and movies have tried to play on this concept - best that I recollect (I think I am) was 'The Truman Show'. This book by Klosterman attempts to provoke the reader to at least contemplate that what they think they know may be wrong. He uses examples like concept of gravity, and how it ...
Singularly disturbing, the sociology...
