Europe is changing. That is the understatement of the decade. Not in terms of glacial melts or altered bird species. Something much more dramatic. The people are going broke. Their governments already are.
Now in this new decade they view the spectre of large scale joblessness and high debt coupled with rage and unrest in the masses vis a vis larger debtor nations like the US dictating belt tightening for the unruly members.
This creates dilemmas for those that are full of economic theory like Mario Monti (hence the title) who dreads his country facing the challenge faced by those in the Full Monty. He might be too full to tighten the belt so he looks to the Spaniards and the Portuguese to see what else to do.
While lazing on the beaches of the Med they all look aghast at the prospect of someone called Dragy to tell them the rules of the game. Perhaps letting the clothes go might be easy? Hey we at least got ourselves the largest combined coastline!
I attempted to read this book by author Chuck Klosterman backward to forward but it started hurting my brain so I decided to stop and do it like any other publication in the English language. Start from page 1 and move to the right. Witty, caustic and thought provoking this is a book you want to read if you believe that the status quo might, just might be wrong. At times bordering on being contrarian about most things around us it tries to zero in on the notion of what makes anything believable and certain in our minds. The fact that there is a fact itself is ironic. Something analogous to the idea that you can never predict the future because there is no future. Many books and movies have tried to play on this concept - best that I recollect (I think I am) was 'The Truman Show'. This book by Klosterman attempts to provoke the reader to at least contemplate that what they think they know may be wrong. He uses examples like concept of gravity, and how it ...
I love the title...also rhymes with one Carlo Ponti..don't remember who he was though..
