VC vs. CV

These could well be the intials of two south Indian brainiacs that came to the states and developed some high funda algorithm that unbeknownst to humanity is powering the Google search or helping discover the god particle or forecasting the weather in the next century.

But they are not.  At least not that I know of.

Which is not saying much but we have already established that before in our readings.

So what of these strange acronyms?

Well if you are in the valley (not some random gulch between two mounds but the one where silicon is abundant) - Si Valley then you no doubt know what they might mean?  These days it is all the rage to be associated with the initials VC than what you may have in your CV or curriculum vitae... I mean since Ceasar who actually speaks Latin?  Although Curriculum eerily sounds like South Indian curry based concoction is merely a coincidence.

VC stands for Venture Capitalists.  Yes continuing on our theme of capitalism found by the founding fathers (mothers were not been given their due since time began - although I suspect mothers found more things than fathers did in totality - like how many teeth their child had or where did all the boogers go etc) these days the valley elite are once again touting the glam associated with being the name behind the invention rather than the invention.  Actually the emphasis is now on innovation - another scam to differntiate themselves from the mundane 9 to 5 crowd.

These VC are always on - like realtors.  But different.  They don't sell used assets they get into innovation.  Did I say that already?  Actually they do then they get into what realtors do - sell the assets for profit.   No one really knows what their CV holds.  Sometimes they are merely people that were born to other VCs.  Sometimes they made a couple of hit films and decide to become VC.

Some are the genuine article.  They dabbled when the dabbling was good and decided to plow their immense wealth into something the other lesser portions of our species could ultimately yak over - nonstop with their thumbs no less.

Of chocolates

I like chocolates. Godiva Dark with Almonds - not sure of the naked woman on the horse to be the icon of some choice cocoa based products but tastes good. Started in Belgium but now owned by some Turks. Cadburys - Fruit and Nut Milk Bars - awesome combination of dried fruit pieces along with a medley of nuts makes your toungue dance - started by a Brit now owen by Kraft USA. Lindt Hazelnut spheres - made by a Swiss confectioner are divine balls that melt in your mouth with a lingering nutty taste Ghirardelli Milk Crisp Squares - crunchy and light these milk squares are easy on the palate but pack some serious calories - all good I say! Originally founded by an Italian who moved around till he landed in SF Bay today also owned by the Swiss Lindt empire.

Columbia SC

The Palmetto state.  One of the confederate kinds. History dating couple centuries back.  We visited the capital yet again this time to take in the SC State Museum. Occupying the former digs (literally remodeled) of an erstwhile cotton mill this structure is an amazing piece of reimagination.  Four floors of excitement for kids and young at heart alike. Located on the shores of the Congaree River formed when the Broad meets up with the Saluda River, this edifice is approx. 60 years old.  The front of the building has a more modern planetarium that was added about a decade ago.  The museum itself has different areas of interest segregated on each of its four floors. The first floor has gift shop and a diorama of some of the local geography including the swamps and the state beaches with audio guides to help understand what fauna thrives locally. The second floor is all about natural history and showcases animal kingdom that may have survived on this latitud...
