Good 1 Evil 0

The sensational news flash last night from the POTUS announcing to the world of the death of a master terrorist was welcome news. That said it was also summarized by pundits as being consistent with the theme of good conquering evil. As simple as that?

How humans have come to define this demarcation of good and evil is a very interesting subject indeed. This is evident on tracking and (if you believe what you read out there) understanding the genesis of this criminal mind. His original rise to prominence was fueled out of being aligned to the western capitalist intervention in Afghanistan, when the defined enemy or evil was 'Communism' and those that harbored that belief. Removing the erstwhile USSR from the Afghan landscape was the charter for the day and the recruits included the now dead but then motivated mercenary.

His eventual disgust of occupying forces and dominance on what he considered his turf crescendoed into a villianous drive toward the capitalist culture. It is ironic since he prefered to live a life of substantial pursuits which made 'his' day.

Today in a reversal of roles the same capitalist regime and the continuing communist (but reduced) nation are friends or allies (at least on the surface and believe in rooting out 'evil' as the society defines it 'today') fighting the so called 'War on Terror', an ambiguous target at best.

Nonetheless where the germ of today's 'evil' will nucleate is a reminder for all of us to be aware of our simplest actions and attitudes. How it will then impact future life on the planet is of concern.

Today's business as usual involves 'getting almost naked' before boarding a winged form of transport to inconveniences of being checked and scanned at major events and venues, to increasing costs of protecting our homeland, monies that could have been spent on more fruitful pursuits.

Good education for all, to help inidividual minds make thoughtful decisions for themselves and therefore all humanity is the optimist's WAY OUT.

Of chocolates

I like chocolates. Godiva Dark with Almonds - not sure of the naked woman on the horse to be the icon of some choice cocoa based products but tastes good. Started in Belgium but now owned by some Turks. Cadburys - Fruit and Nut Milk Bars - awesome combination of dried fruit pieces along with a medley of nuts makes your toungue dance - started by a Brit now owen by Kraft USA. Lindt Hazelnut spheres - made by a Swiss confectioner are divine balls that melt in your mouth with a lingering nutty taste Ghirardelli Milk Crisp Squares - crunchy and light these milk squares are easy on the palate but pack some serious calories - all good I say! Originally founded by an Italian who moved around till he landed in SF Bay today also owned by the Swiss Lindt empire.

Columbia SC

The Palmetto state.  One of the confederate kinds. History dating couple centuries back.  We visited the capital yet again this time to take in the SC State Museum. Occupying the former digs (literally remodeled) of an erstwhile cotton mill this structure is an amazing piece of reimagination.  Four floors of excitement for kids and young at heart alike. Located on the shores of the Congaree River formed when the Broad meets up with the Saluda River, this edifice is approx. 60 years old.  The front of the building has a more modern planetarium that was added about a decade ago.  The museum itself has different areas of interest segregated on each of its four floors. The first floor has gift shop and a diorama of some of the local geography including the swamps and the state beaches with audio guides to help understand what fauna thrives locally. The second floor is all about natural history and showcases animal kingdom that may have survived on this latitud...
