I might have in prior years debated this idea. But since I am getting to a point where I am selectively remembering things it does not help to dawdle.
So I will press ahead with the (what I think is my) latest thinking. I recently watched a slow but gripping police drama with Denzel Washington and Rami Malek called 'The little things'.
The two cops try very hard to track down a vicious killer in the LA area but are unable to prove beyond reasonable doubt if they captured the perpetrator. Eventually (spoiler) a scuffle ensues and their prime suspect gets killed at the hands of the cop played by Rami.
Denzel's character fakes evidence to let Rami believe that he did the right thing in killing the suspect.
So was justice served? Who knows. Attacking Afghanistan and Iraq after the 9/11 tragedy served a purpose in letting America work out its rage. But did it make the world safer? Did it solve a problem? What did we lose in return?
More checks from poorly trained and minimally paid staff at airports to scan through our private items and ask goofy questions and try to put on a show that portrays a more secure flying experience?
Long lines and restrictions on what you can and cannot carry aboard an airliner?
Did we get justice? Are we enjoying our new life? Are our liberties intact?
The virus killed 4 million human beings this past year across the planet. Did we as humans then go on to create a more liberal and just world or did we create more problems? There are arguments now to debate whether the virus in fact was human made code or was it natural evolution?
An article in Bloomberg recently exhorts the readers to think before we act if we indeed discover that China was the source of the problem and not nature. A plea that may be too late.
