Not sure where I got thinking about the limited shelf life aspect of my being but since I did I thought I'd write down what exactly was going through my noggin.
Call it a mild tremor of what could otherwise be described as a mid life crisis. I am not sure what the so called CRISIS might look like (buying expensive and impractical German designed sports cars has been lumped in that category) but I began to ponder if our child for example was learning the right recipes to help her cook her way through life in case we (self and the better self) were to kick the proverbial bucket tomorrow.
Schooling the way she is experiencing it is in many ways different than what I experienced growing up. Not much variety - much cramped classrooms - no technology or whiff of anything electronic then, other than the Casio wristwatches some well endowed classmates wore.
It could actually tell time or date depending on which button you pressed.
Now in 2011 it is assumed that you can communicate with your offspring at any point in time using TEXT messaging. We do not encourage that nor have we invested in devices capable of such a thing. Call us backward or slow adopters.
Nonetheless we do believe that our offspring has a solid foundation to determine what is Right and Wrong - as it relates to a nine year old's universe.
She immensely enjoys every aspect of school life and is happy with friends and class projects. Every break we take her to see a different part of the planet we inhabit with the hope that we will all be better for it.
As we continue to sustain the unit and look to expand our mental horizons on a daily basis we are struck by the increasing number of stress inducing events and changes near and far. We can only hope that the sooner we prime the little one with enough fertilizer to take strong roots and fend for herself the better.
It is an uncertain world we have always lived in - perhaps the poignancy of it all is becoming more apparent with each passing day. I suppose not being Ignorant is not Bliss!

I was scared to read coz I mistook the title for "morality". It's only mortality, so all is well.
ReplyDeleteI hear you - scary when each country it seems is trying to one-up their brand of 'Morality is Dead' faster than child death in Africa.
