Theory of Relativity

Everything in life is relative. Relative to what? Depends on your state of mind.

If you have a personality that does not mind much about much then you are relatively calm...dare I say almost Zen - utopian.

If you get irked with poor customer service or falsified claims whether they are from a car rental that did not deliver the car of choice or whether it was a food product that did not meet published expectation you are a normal human - relatively speaking of course.

If you think hard about it what matters to you at any point in your life is a function of how old you get. As a kid you see many things for the first time and get enamored with quite a few - its only natural - and many a times are in awe to the point of desiring it and if able to obtain said good then being attached to it.

As you age your world view most likely changes and you start decoding what matters and what does not. Pretty soon you are at a point where you are not inclined to hang on to a whole lot but let things slide and focus on what really matters - i.e. Good Health, Good Relations (with some or many individuals that matter in small or large part in that point in life) and Financial Stability (what is stable is also - you guessed it -relative).

On that note Good Relations are those that you claim to develop with people in your sphere of interaction, whether at work or in your social circle - or pentagon or whatever polygon suits your taste.

Some people stretch their goals to make connections in many corners of the globe either because they are ones that can use their influence or can influence outcomes somewhere else.

Blood lines are a common source of relations - they are not all necessarily worthwhile. Today's world has changed so rapidly (relatively speaking) that what we thought was the rule book in 2000 is now a new version in 2011.

I recently encountered some cousins after a couple of decades and shared a night over dinner reminiscing some moments and inquiring about each others' lives and lifestyles.

Good fun was had by all without getting too worked up about events in history that may not have been appetizing for all concerned. Whether society can move on with such stepping stones serving as vitamin shots to a system or whether a periodic appearance of individuals from the past is warranted is subject to individual interpretation.

What makes Relatives Relevant or Irrelevant is a function of how the relationship developed and whether there was the generational maturity in the group to absorb the changes that come naturally with evolution.

  1. One of my favorite books of all time, and title too, is 'My Family and Other Animals'. Relevant or not (relatively speaking?) I don't know.

Of chocolates

I like chocolates. Godiva Dark with Almonds - not sure of the naked woman on the horse to be the icon of some choice cocoa based products but tastes good. Started in Belgium but now owned by some Turks. Cadburys - Fruit and Nut Milk Bars - awesome combination of dried fruit pieces along with a medley of nuts makes your toungue dance - started by a Brit now owen by Kraft USA. Lindt Hazelnut spheres - made by a Swiss confectioner are divine balls that melt in your mouth with a lingering nutty taste Ghirardelli Milk Crisp Squares - crunchy and light these milk squares are easy on the palate but pack some serious calories - all good I say! Originally founded by an Italian who moved around till he landed in SF Bay today also owned by the Swiss Lindt empire.

Columbia SC

The Palmetto state.  One of the confederate kinds. History dating couple centuries back.  We visited the capital yet again this time to take in the SC State Museum. Occupying the former digs (literally remodeled) of an erstwhile cotton mill this structure is an amazing piece of reimagination.  Four floors of excitement for kids and young at heart alike. Located on the shores of the Congaree River formed when the Broad meets up with the Saluda River, this edifice is approx. 60 years old.  The front of the building has a more modern planetarium that was added about a decade ago.  The museum itself has different areas of interest segregated on each of its four floors. The first floor has gift shop and a diorama of some of the local geography including the swamps and the state beaches with audio guides to help understand what fauna thrives locally. The second floor is all about natural history and showcases animal kingdom that may have survived on this latitude millenia ago.  There are se

New England is gleaming in the fall

This autumn the weather gods cooperated as we took a family trip in the northeast to see six states that qualify or makeup what is known colloquially in America as New England. Mass, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Rhode Island (tiniest state in the union). The outing helped tally up the states we either lived in, visited or have worked in to 47. Guess which three have eluded this intrepid traveling family. Any rate the drive was all in about 1,800 miles and included some memorable geographic wonders or points of interest.  Easternmost part of state of Massachusetts being one.  Furthest drivable road east in Mass being another. Visit to all Ivy League schools (term harkens to a collegiate athletics conference and generally regarded as elite academic institutes of some repute worldwide) is another random bucket list item of which this trip afforded the chance to knock two more of the list.  Dartmouth in Hanover, NH and Brown (and its sister institute the RISD  - school f
