Registered yet?

One of the events that irks me most these days is that of Registering. I have a school going child and it is obvious we are registering for something or the other every other day. I mean a lot does not register for me every day what with so much registering every other. From registering for the new school year in the middle of the year - that will throw you for a time loop what with added Daylight Spending Time (or was it savings - does not seem likely what with our penchant for the former than latter) and what not added to the mix - to the registration for after school enrichment programs there seems to be a lot of onus on the entire family to ensure that education keeps dripping into your offspring. Outside of educating they also want you to be extra curricular and register for walk or bike to school day to participate in tile paintings to register to feed the hungry. Then there is the registration for the Archery Camp which will also accept registration for the field trips. I mean what is there to register if you want to walk in the fields? Ah - not so much registration as much its the disclaimer readathon - we the faithful school adminstration hereby disavow all responsibility of your child's unpredictable behavior and mysterious disappearances if they were to occur. The field must be big or some such. Having spent a good half day reading the many ways one can absolve themselves of any responsibility we sign in three places and then promptly proceed to forget what we registered for. That has yet failed to register. Back in the day if you misbehaved they threw the register (a thick ruled page book bound by glue strip binding and hard covers) at you so perhaps it would - register! Now schools simply ask offensive children bearing parents to come and register in the principal's office for their turn to meet him so that they can discuss what is ailing their ward.

    Until we get deregistered from the planet, this will be our wont, won't it?

Costa Rica

 Our first foray into Central America. That elongated isthmus that forms the geographic boundary between two vast continents of North and South America. Specifically landing for NYE 2026 in San Jose, Costa Rica. Capital city for this region that does not have its own army, instead relying on its big bro the Estados Unidos to the north is a metropolis of approx. 500K people. Largely wilderness and with both a Pacific and Carribean/Atlantic coast the country is rich in bio diversity. In Spanish it means the rich coast so named by Columbus landing in early 16th century and being mesmerized by the local tribes sporting gold jewelry.   Our stay included visiting the foothills of a large strato volcano called Arenal and enjoying the naturally heated thermal baths for a while.  Lunching amidst lush forest and watching indigenous species of avian noise makers fly overhead. A few good books

 On an informal mission to read one book a week as long as the eyes allow for such ambition. Fiction or non is not important as long as it entertains and /or educates. To that end the past few weeks have brought a bounty in the form of some wonderful and then not so engaging literature. Among the notables are - Non fiction category: 1. Good arguments by Bo Seo (how to handle a dispute or debate the most efficient way possible) 2. Genesis by Eric Schmidt (and former US Secy of State Henry Kissinger, who recently passed) - how AI might affect our lives as we know it 3. One in a billion - Zarna Garg (an autobiographical look at an Indian born American woman with a bindi narrated in a standup format - yes it is at times cliched but still funny) Fiction: 1. Personal by Lee Child (a vigilante story with Jack Reacher the giant, nomad protagonist of Child's novels goes hunting for a sniper) 2.
