The Diversity Debate

The whole idea that humanity needs to call out 'Diversity' in every sales pitch whether its for a Political Position; a Venture Capitalist seeking ideas' an Employer staffing employees shows how shallow as a race we all are.

We are what we are - in all shapes and colors and sexual orientations. To evaluate either of these characteristics beyond the obvious (cannot hire a weak midget to load heavy sacks on a shop floor) to hire or to recruit for a role requiring core skills is fallacy.

But we do not live in a world that always makes rational decisions. Hence the screwed up state of affairs everywhere you look. Apparently Finland got some high marks in some recent survey regarding women advancement - that is encouraging but again highlights what is wrong with perspective for the most part - the need to call these things out.

It is no different than schools competing to show who is better than the other so people can rush to get their kids in those high ranking ones and hope to crank out a winner in their family. Obviously I am not thinking of a Utopian Society but one formed merely based on inherent skill and desire to learn. If you are a slouch you get screwed and if you work hard at something and give it your all then you get a fighting chance to succeed, even get rewarded for that effort alone.

Self esteem is touted as a major attribute these days but all I see is lazy ass retards getting a consolation prize in all manners of competitive activity. This pattern of coddling the worthless is going to take a society that is average or even doing better than others to eventually just erode and vanish in the face of true grit and competition from those hungry to achieve regardless of their origins, sex, colors, or wealth.

As an aside I found this in my research (I do not subscribe to the Jerusalem mumbo jumbo but the message resonates with me ... see earlier blog on Repetitive Futility (POINT OF ALL THIS)...

Everything Is Meaningless

1 The words of the Teacher,[a] son of David, king in Jerusalem:
2 “Meaningless! Meaningless!”
says the Teacher.
“Utterly meaningless!
Everything is meaningless.”

3 What do people gain from all their labors
at which they toil under the sun?
4 Generations come and generations go,
but the earth remains forever.
5 The sun rises and the sun sets,
and hurries back to where it rises.
6 The wind blows to the south
and turns to the north;
round and round it goes,
ever returning on its course.
7 All streams flow into the sea,
yet the sea is never full.
To the place the streams come from,
there they return again.
8 All things are wearisome,
more than one can say.
The eye never has enough of seeing,
nor the ear its fill of hearing.
9 What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.
10 Is there anything of which one can say,
“Look! This is something new”?
It was here already, long ago;
it was here before our time.
11 No one remembers the former generations,
and even those yet to come
will not be remembered
by those who follow them.

Wisdom Is Meaningless

12 I, the Teacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem. 13 I applied my mind to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under the heavens. What a heavy burden God has laid on mankind! 14 I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
15 What is crooked cannot be straightened;
what is lacking cannot be counted.

16 I said to myself, “Look, I have increased in wisdom more than anyone who has ruled over Jerusalem before me; I have experienced much of wisdom and knowledge.” 17 Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom, and also of madness and folly, but I learned that this, too, is a chasing after the wind.

18 For with much wisdom comes much sorrow;
the more knowledge, the more grief.

Of chocolates

I like chocolates. Godiva Dark with Almonds - not sure of the naked woman on the horse to be the icon of some choice cocoa based products but tastes good. Started in Belgium but now owned by some Turks. Cadburys - Fruit and Nut Milk Bars - awesome combination of dried fruit pieces along with a medley of nuts makes your toungue dance - started by a Brit now owen by Kraft USA. Lindt Hazelnut spheres - made by a Swiss confectioner are divine balls that melt in your mouth with a lingering nutty taste Ghirardelli Milk Crisp Squares - crunchy and light these milk squares are easy on the palate but pack some serious calories - all good I say! Originally founded by an Italian who moved around till he landed in SF Bay today also owned by the Swiss Lindt empire.

Columbia SC

 The Palmetto state.  One of the confederate kinds. History dating couple centuries back.  We visited the capital yet again this time to take in the SC State Museum. Occupying the former digs (literally remodeled) of an erstwhile cotton mill this structure is an amazing piece of reimagination.  Four floors of excitement for kids and young at heart alike. Located on the shores of the Congaree River formed when the Broad meets up with the Saluda River, this edifice is approx. 60 years old.  The front of the building has a more modern planetarium that was added about a decade ago.  The museum itself has different areas of interest segregated on each of its four floors. The first floor has gift shop and a diorama of some of the local geography including the swamps and the state beaches with audio guides to help understand what fauna thrives locally. The second floor is all about natural history and showcases animal kingdom that may have survived on this latitud...
