It got hot finally in inland valleys of the bay area. It is early June so says the calendar. After what seemed like a storm was brewing one evening and temps dropped into the low 50s (F) the Nino or Nina gods suddenly woke up and decided it was time to crank the heat in Northern California.
So much so that the Sunday ended at 100 F on the nose. As part of the weekend frivolities we were asked to join a neighbor for some chow in the evening and shoot the proverbial what not - we both were at hello before and we agreed we could move to the next level of being acquainted.
So in the course of the acquainting the neighbor a smart chap with variety of interests ranging from sports to photography to travel for satisfying curiosity, to raising fine kids offered me a beverage that I was not familiar with.
It is called a Shandy - which is defined as a beer to which another fruity concoction is added - in this case it was fizzy lemonade. The beer (chilled) itself was a wheat beer and the complex flavor profile was refreshing on the day that was beginning to warm.
We bantered about food and travel and how or why it is critical for a person in today's day and age to age with 'What's App' - an application that can connect you with multitudes of people that also carry its incarnation in their pockets on a smart (cell) phone.
Now I have realized there are clearly a lot of examples where I am not smart by virtue of not being glued into the latest happenings and behavioral traits exhibited by the masses associated with use of their cellular device.
What's App is an instance of this.
Apparently people in India to where I am about to head out to are mesmerized, enamored and attached to this piece of software to the point of addiction. That made me uncomfortable.
Clearly a Silicon Valley geek found it to be a business worthy of owning so paid gobs of money to acquire the What's App franchise and add it to their already over evolved platform called Facebook.
Now the questions I was left pondering after a fine evening of mingling (with some other new faces that made an appearance) and chowing some calories, was whether I like the Shandy or can I plunge into the What's App?
I know I prefer the simplicity of uncorking some fizz to an electronically unveiled interaction with multitudes I might not tolerate.

Shandy seems to clear the cobwebs better than any App-What? Cheers!
