Food and Travel have been my two passions. Taking pictures along the way became the third. In terms of either there have been extremes but I got to thinking about the geographic limits that our travels have taken us in the past couple of decades. Below then are some of the sights we saw in America ...
- Westernmost part of contiguous United States - Shi Shi beach, WA - A beach stuck out on the northwest corner of the state of Washington. My memory suggests we finished hiking and driving through the Olympic National Park after leaving Seattle and then headed out to this beach which sits on land owned by the native Makah people.
- Easternmost corner of the United States - Not having been to Maine yet I think the Hampton Lighthouse on Montauk which is the easternmost edge of Long Island, NY would be it.
- Southernmost point in the continental US - our visit to Florida in the 90s took us on a road trip to the keys. Key West I believe was the last of the chain of islands we went to. I think there is also the customary marker at the beach that says you have reached the geographic southernmost point.
- Northernmost point in the USA - we drove to a town called Circle, Alaska during our visit to the 49th state. It sits close to the 66th parallel just south of the Arctic Circle.
